Oman

The Gulf without the glass towers — fjords, 3,000m canyons, empty desert and a coastline of turtles, all within an hour's flight of Dubai and centuries away in feel.

When to go

October to April is the season; days are warm and evenings cool. Summer, May to September, is extremely hot except in the Jebel Akhdar mountains, which stay temperate.

Getting there

Muscat International takes direct flights from London in around 7h30, plus private aviation. Internal transfers by 4x4, seaplane or helicopter.

What we arrange

Hotels and chalets, private transfers and helicopters, restaurant reservations, guides, events and everything in between — on one WhatsApp thread.

Things to do

Beyond the obvious.

01

Wahiba Sands desert camp

Dune driving into the Sharqiya Sands to a private camp, with Bedouin hosts and silence after dark.

02

Musandam dhow through the fjords

A traditional dhow among the sheer cliffs of the Strait of Hormuz, with dolphins and swimming stops.

03

Jebel Shams and Wadi Ghul

Oman's highest peak and the canyon beneath it — the balcony walk is one of Arabia's great trails.

04

Turtle watching at Ras Al Jinz

Green turtles nesting on the beach at night, at a protected reserve on the easternmost point of Arabia.

Insider note

Oman rewards a road trip more than a resort stay. Three bases — mountains, desert and coast — over ten days shows you a country most visitors never see.
